The New Champ!

Jordan Armstrong

Report by Geoff Taylor

Centenary Year, Earl Shilton Institute Snooker Championship.
Last year Jordan Armstrong won the best young player award in the Hinckley Times Snooker League. He has now completed the double by winning the 2009 Annual Stute Snooker Championship. Beating his uncle, Steve Pickering, in a close game - three frames to two.

The Annual Stute Snooker Championship

This was a family affair with Jordan Armstrong playing his uncle Steve Pickering.

They had already met in the group stages where Steve had come out on top.
And once again it turned out to be a close encounter.
Frame 1 was close; Jordan just prevailing with 58 points to 37 points.
In frame 2 Jordan showed why he has become a decent player - scoring a 16 break then finishing the last 3 colours for an 18 finish.
Although Steve was two down by now he was not finished.
In frame 3 Steve had breaks of 13 and 15 keeping Jordan off the table to win 67 to 28.
Frame 4 - again close, but Steve got out of a snooker and potted the colour; this changed the frame in Steve's favour; score Steve 43 Jordan 27.
All square at two two and all to play for.
Final frame, another close frame. With Steve 17 behind, Jordan left the blue over the top pocket. Tension told, Steve missed the ball and Jordan got blue and pink.
A new champion and a worthy one. Well done Jordan!

The protagonists prepare.

Congratulations from the Steward.....

.....and from the runner-up!
