The 'STUTE' - Annual Report 2007 - - Today is

Annual Report presented by the Secretary to the AGM held on Tuesday 4th Mar 2008.

Annual Report April 2007 - March 2008.
There have been many improvements to the building this year costing in excess of £20,000.
Two new, more energy efficient boilers fitted that service the ground floor. This is in part thanks to a grant from the Town Council.
The electrical system has been checked and rewired where necessary.
The snooker hall floorboards round tables 4 & 5 have been replaced and the whole room re-carpeted with green carpet tiles.
The pool room has been re-carpeted to match.
The front meetings room has had a new floor covering laid.
Snooker table refurbishments.
Various smaller pieces of work to maintain the facilities many undertaken by Committee members.
The refurbishment has now been completed on the middle room.

The ‘Stute website set-up, paid for and managed by volunteer Brannon Cope continues to be an asset. It is possible for members with internet access to keep informed about any upcoming events or changes to usual opening times owing to staff holidays etc. It is also building a history on the Stute with many pictures and memories of local and not-so-local people.

Middle room:- This room now provides a valuable resource. There has been an increase in regular use of the room in the daytime by education providers, especially the Leicestershire County Council Adult Learning Services. A one-off event on Anti-Social behaviour took place organised by the police and local authority. There has also been regular evening use by various sub-committees of the Town Council.

Activities:- There remains in place a regular programme of activities including Nursery School, Exercise sessions, Games night, Tae Kwon Do, Table-tennis, Seniors Snooker afternoons as well as snooker and pool each weekday evening. The Lighthouse Christian Centre continues to use the facilities.

Committee:- The following Committee members have continued to serve this year: - Arthur Amos, Geoff Smith, Paul Statham, Julia Pittham and John Iddon., recently Brian George was co-opted back onto the committee and he is warmly welcomed.

Goodbye and Hello:- Over the year we have said goodbye to Avril who was our cleaner and also to Barry who was the Steward. We have been joined by Pearl and Geoff who we wish to welcome to the ‘Stute, wishing you both a long, productive and happy time. Thanks to John Iddon and Adam Percival who have gallantly stood in and kept the snooker hall open whilst the search for a replacement steward took place.

Future:- We have in the pipeline applications for grant assistance to support the refurbishment of the gents’ toilets on the ground floor. We are considering how best to use information technology for the best advantage of the ‘Stute and its users.

Thanks to all, who have helped over the past year, most of whom are sitting here tonight, so thank you to you all, not forgetting anyone that is not here tonight. It’s the voluntary efforts by local people that keep this facility open to the community.

Julia Pittham Hon. Sec. 2007/8
